Devotions

From the most ancient of days of the Prophet Elijah living on the Holy Mountain of Carmel, through the first hermetical foundations of the Order of Carmel, to the Medieval foundations and continuing today, Our Lady, the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, Mary Most Holy has been our exemplar and inspiration. It is she who we, as sons and daughters clothed in her protective mantle of Carmel, endeavor to imitate as we practice a spiritual life centered on Jesus Christ. This heavenly Mother teaches us and leads us always, always, always to her Divine Son. He in turn, through the power of the Holy Spirit, shows us how to love and obey our most merciful and loving Father, God the creator of that which is visible and invisible!

Throughout the centuries of Carmelite spirituality various devotions have deepened and developed for the good of souls in the universal church. While devotions can not replace a true sacramental life, they can certainly excite a soul to practice prayer in fervant, loving ways. In an endeavor to share the richness of these devotions (which are much more widely practiced than just through the Garden of Carmel) we have assembled the following educational resources.

"Jesus already lives in my heart. I strive to unite myself, to become like Him and abase myself in Him. I'm a drop of water that must disappear in the Infinite Ocean. But there is an abyss that the drop cannot cross; and the ocean overflows in such a way that the drop of water remains in the most complete abandonment of itself and lives in a continuous whisper, calling to the Divine Ocean."
